Wednesday the 16th June - Bloomsday
Bloomsday commemorates the world renowned Irish writer James Joyce. Bloomsday is celebrated on the 16th of June - the day on which Joyce first met his future wife Nora Barnacle. Centered on his book, Ulysses, the city will come alive with re-enactments on location, walks and readings. People will walk the path of Leopbold Bloom the key character in Ulysses through Dublin with readings taking place on street corners, in pubs and hotels.
It is traditional to dress up and go out for the day and many wacky outfits will be spotted milling through Temple Bar on the day.
Temple Bar will be a hive of activity with entertainment starting from 11am.
11am - 4pm: Bloomsday readings in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar
Joyceans of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to join in a star studded afternoon of readings and songs. Soprano Deirdre Masterson and tenor John Scott perform a variety of songs drawn from Ulysses, and Elain McGloughlin presents a ballet performance to "Marble Halls".
