Our favourite Dublin Clubs
There are many clubs in Dublin that cater to a variety of different music and tastes. We’ve picked our favourites in Temple Bar and the surrounding areas. You can always ask one of the friendly hostel staff at Barnacles Hostel Temple Bar for suggestions and directions on where to go out.
Temple Bar Area:
Pitching itself somewhere between a DJ bar and a nightclub, 4 Dame Lane is a two-level, New York loft-style space, popular with club kids during the week and a hip, more professional crowd at the weekend. The bar downstairs is ideal for a quiet-ish drink, while upstairs is good for an incredibly loud drink.
Until recently, the Button Factory was the famed Temple Bar Music Centre, one of the foremost music venues in the city. After a pricey revamp, the Button Factory is decidedly more plush and relaxed than its grungy predecessor. Now, this 1,000-capacity venue hosts a wide selection of club nights: indie to salsa to house to hip hop.
This basement club and live music spot is the least tourist-oriented venue in Temple Bar. In fact, the average tourist would probably find the Hub a little unnerving. It hosts up-and-coming live acts until 11pm, then turns into a club. The vibe depends on what bands have played that night, but if you like it messy and rock ‘n’ roll, you won’t be disappointed.
This place is a safe bet all week. Mondays are particularly busy with Strictly Handbag (soul and ’80s dancefloor fillers), while man-about-town Ollie Cole rustles up an indie/electro storm with his weekly Ruby Tuesdays offering (every Tuesday, oddly enough). Ri-Ra has been in business for more than a decade and has acquired a small army of regulars who set a friendly tone.
Around St Stephans Green:
Southwilliam is growing in popularity by the night, thanks to a host of diverse club events. Run largely by local music industry figures, bloggers, stylists, musicians and DJs, the attention to detail is what sets the Southwilliam apart as a club venue.
Dandelion is plush & lush, it’s everything you want under one roof. Nightlife never looked better! This is a a funky late night cafe bar, club and post club cafe, which is now open till 2am with food & juice bar to keep you going all night long.
