Local guide to Galway

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Next in the series of our local guides, we have some recommendations from lovely Karen who works in our Galway hostel. Our local guide to Galway series is here for you to see what our staff likes to do and places they like to go out to, so you have a handy guide to less touristy and more local experiences when travelling :) We are there to make your stay go from “great” to “earth shattering awesome”
Favourite place in the world:  San Francisco! Just love the people you get to meet there!

You wouldn’t know about this, but when in Galway go to… Aras na Gael on a Friday. It’s the Irish Centre where trad music is usually played, but on Fridays it’s World Music Night. It has a very bohemian feel and is definitely a unique night out.

Ideal day in Galway would include a walk to the beach in Salthill, eating in one of the many great restaurants, and then relax with some great craft beers in The Salt House. Make sure to grab some ice cream, it is perfect fuel for a walk down!

Best tea & coffee in Galway: My favourite daytime hangout is the Secret Garden on the West side. They have lots of great teas and cakes, and have crafts and games events. A great place to chill with a book or to have a chat with friends. Bonus – it is only 5 minute walk from our hostel in Galway!

Best deal for lunch in Galway: I love mexican food so I have to say Boojum, the burrito bar. You can get a student deal for about €6!
Best night club in Galway: The Róisín Dubh is a great alternative to a club. It’s more relaxed, and is usually free in. The Silent Disco on Tuesdays is a great night out! Only €5 and that includes a free pint!

Don’t forget to check out silent disco street party, happening every summer!

Isn’t Galway just amazing? :)
